The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, 
because the Lord has anointed me 
to preach good news to the poor.

God has anointed us to preach good news – to tell His daughters the good news of His Love for them.  He loves them and thinks they are beautiful.  He has wondrous thoughts of them – even though they hear only words of hatred, anger and oppression from their abuser.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, 
to proclaim freedom for the captives 
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

He has sent us to bind up the brokenhearted – to help them find a way – His way – to their healing. 
To proclaim freedom and the release of darkness for those imprisoned by fear and abuse.

to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,

To comfort those who mourn – to be a place of support and love for them.

and provide for those who grieve in Zion— 
to bestow on them a crown of beauty 
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise 
instead of a spirit of despair. 
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD 
for the display of his splendor.

To bestow on them a crown of beauty, instead of ashes and gladness instead of mourning through learning new ways – boundaries, safety plans and relying on God’s love, goodness and guidance.

When the sin of abuse is exposed and the women are free to be who God created them to be, they will be a display of His splendor.
